A fire broke out at the Stanislaus Farm Supply warehouse in Ceres, CA on Monday morning. The 40,000 square-foot warehouse is used to store fertilizer-grade sulfur.
It is unclear what started the fire at this time. Residents within a mile of the warehouse were asked to shelter-in-place, keep windows closed, and turn off HVAC units. Firefighters remained at the scene over night to monitor the scene.
Modesto Fire Deputy Chief, Darin Jesberg, said the advisory was only cautionary and suggested sensitive groups should wear N95 masks to reduce the risk of respiratory problems. The shelter-in-place order has been lifted. The Modesto Fire Department said there is no threat to surrounding structures.
