The Waltham Fire Department responded to a chemical spill at the AZENTA Life Sciences lab on Monday afternoon. An investigation determined the spill involved somewhere between a liter and a gallon of an acid-based, flammable solvent. Emergency responders safely evacuated the building without serious injury.
Several people were treated by medical personnel at the scene for minor exposure symptoms. The symptoms included irritation to the nose, throat, and skin. The hazmat crews spent several hours resolving the spill. There is no danger to the public.
