October 3, 2022: Derailment Causes Chemical Spill in Michigan

A freight train derailment in Warren, Michigan has caused a chemical spill. Authorities said 12 of the 151 cars derailed near Stephens and Schoenherr road. During the derailment, ethanol alcohol and hydraulic cement leaked from the derailed tank cars. The train was also carrying liquid chlorine but it does not appear to have leaked during the incident.
Officials assured the public that the materials that leaked during the derailment are non-toxic and pose no threat to local residents or the environment. Several roads in the area have been closed while crews clean up the area. No injuries have been reported.
