August 25, 2022: Hazmat Spill in Calgary’s Glenmore Reservoir

The Calgary Fire Department responded to a hazmat spill in the city’s Glenmore Reservoir on Thursday afternoon. Officials determined the spill originated from a construction site near the Glenmore Sailing Club. Hazmat crews took samples of the water and determined the spill to be hydrocarbon. Webster’s Dictionary describes hydrocarbons as a compound of hydrogen and carbon, such as any of those which are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas.
The spill was not substantial and has already dissipated. There is no threat to local residents or wildlife.
