Two pressurized tank cars containing carbon dioxide derailed in Brandon, MS on Wednesday afternoon. Heavy rains and flash floods in the area washed out a portion of the railroad tracks between Highway 471 and North Street. Despite the derailment being near several neighborhoods, authorities have stated there is no threat to local residents.
Mayor Butch Lee said “I want to be very careful about that as it gets into social media. We don’t need people taking unnecessary actions and thinking they’re in harm’s way when they’re not.”
