July 29, 2019: Hours of Service of Drivers: Application for Renewal of Exemption

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced it will grant WestRock’s request for renewal on its previously approved request for exemption from the HOS regulations that would prohibit drivers from operating property-carrying commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) after the 14th hour after coming on duty and require 10 hours off-duty before driving. The renewal is limited to the shipping department employees and the occasional substitute CDL holders that only transport paper mill products between the shipping and receiving locations in Chattanooga, Tennessee.   The exemption will permit these employees to occasionally work up to 16 consecutive hours and then be allowed to return to work with less than the mandatory 10 consecutive hours off duty.
The exemption will be effective from April 17, 2019 to April 16, 2024.
