TC Energy, a Canadian-based pipeline company, was forced to shut down its Keystone system on Wednesday. An oil spill in Washington County, Kansas caused a drop in pipeline pressure. The company estimates around 14,000 barrels of oil spilled into the remote Kansas creek. Booms and barriers have been deployed to contain the spilled oil.
The Environmental Protection Agency notified the public that the surface of the water in Mill Creek was affected but the spill has not affected the public drinking water or well water for local residents. The cause of the leak is currently under investigation.
