A Canadian Pacific freight train derailed on Thursday morning near the Village of Macoun. Around two dozen cars derailed, several of them being oil tankers. The derailed cars burst into flames shortly after the train derailed. Flames were seen shooting 100 feet in the air.
Highway 39 was closed in both directions. Residents were asked to avoid the area and local schools were told to shelter in place. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
