December 2, 2022: Clean-up Underway Following Oil Spill Near Lake Charles

The Coast Guard is responding to an oil spill in an industrial canal near near Lake Charles, Louisiana. Once on the scene, investigators discovered around 3,500 gallons of used lubricant oil had been spilled into the waterway. The oil entered the water after escaping from a secondary containment area at Martin Energy Services. Over two thousand feet of booms were deployed to contain the oil. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries rescued seven pelicans from the scene that were covered in oil. Environmental assessments are ongoing.
