Two Norfolk Southern employees were injured during a derailment in Paris, MO on Thursday morning. The freight train struck a tractor trailer that was stopped on the tracks just before 11am. The train’s engineer and conductor both suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Two engines and six box cars derailed and struck three dump trucks that were parked nearby. The train was not hauling any hazardous materials at the time of the incident.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not in the vehicle at the time of impact. Authorities said the driver was hauling a 196-foot silo tank. He was inspecting his cargo. When he saw the train, he didn’t have enough time to move the truck before impact. The name of the driver has not been released at this time.
