Authorities responded to a fire at Lacamas Labs in Portland on Monday. The lab produces pharmaceutical intermediates. Crews reported seeing a large smoke column coming from the building. All employees were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
A hazmat team was brought in once the plant crew informed emergency responders of the hazardous materials being stored adjacent from the fire. Fire crews were able to determine that a failed hot oil system was the cause of the fire. Much of the damage was to the exterior of the building. There was very little damage to the inside of the warehouse. All water used and any leaked oil was safely disposed of using the plant’s containment basins.
