October 3, 2022: Deadly Chemical Exposure at Texas Power Plant Injures 100

More than 100 people were exposed to a deadly chemical at a power plant in Richmond, Texas. Six people were transported to a local hospital. Two of those people are listed in critical condition.
Fort Bend County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to a call at the W.A. Parish Plant just before 6pm on Friday. “Initial concerns were that the chemical could have been ammonia. Upon further investigation, the chemical has been identified as a biodegradable cleaner and degreaser that was overly applied.”
NRG, which operates the plant, said in a statement, “The area was immediately evacuated and emergency responders were called. Some of the workers reported difficulty breathing. NRG is investigating what may have caused the incident. Work in the area will not resume until we are able to determine the cause of the incident.”
The source of the exposure was not released to the public but officials did say there is no danger to local residents.
