A tanker truck hauling hydrofluorosilicic acid was involved in an accident on NC-266. During the accident around 4,500 gallons of hydrofluorosilicic acid spilled onto the roadway.
Emergency Management of Mitchell County and Asheville Hazmat responded to the scene. They contained the spill and are taking additional measures to prevent further impact on the environment. The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Officials believe the tanker truck was either punctured by something on the roadway or an issue with one of the valves.
