Five people suffered injuries after a chemical release at the US Ecology plant in Canton Township, OH. The release happened around 8:00 am on Monday morning. One person is listed in critical condition. The other four people were in fair condition. All victims are suffering from varying degrees of exposure to hydrogen sulfide. The plant converts hazardous inorganic wastes into non-hazardous delisted residuals. The cause of the release is currently under investigation.
US Ecology released the following statement: “Thank you for reaching out to US Ecology. We are aware of an incident at our facility in Canton, Ohio and are cooperating with authorities as they investigate. The occurrence poses no threat to the health or safety of the public. Safety is our top priority and we will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available.”
