A tractor trailer hauling hazardous materials overturned on I-40 in Cocke County, TN on Tuesday evening. Initial reports indicated there was a leak following the accident. During the course of the investigation, officials updated that report to state there were no leaks.
Officials continued monitoring air samples, taking temperature readings, and inspecting the truck for any leaks throughout the evening. All lanes on I-40 were closed for several hours. The name of the hazardous material involved has not been released. Officials have only stated that it was a pressurized liquid.
The driver of the truck, Max Roque, was injured during the accident but it is not clear how serious his injuries are. According to TDOT, Mr. Roque was driving west on I-40 when he lost control of the truck on a curve. Officials claim he veered over into the left lane, hit a cable barrier, made a sharp right turn, causing the truck to roll over onto the driver’s side. The Tennessee Highway Patrol charged Mr. Roque with failure to exercise due care.
