April 20, 2022: Chlorine Leak at Chemical Plant Triggers Shelter-in-Place Order

Authorities issued a shelter in place order following a fire and chlorine leak at a chemical plant in Plaquemine, LA. Residents were asked to turn off their air conditioners and remain inside for several hours last night. The leak occurred at the Olin Corp.’s plant.
The Iberville Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the leak and fire. A representative of the Sheriff’s Office stated “After continuously monitoring the air quality, we feel it is safe to return to normal activities.”
