A CSX freight train derailed in Avon, IN yesterday morning. Several cargo cars toppled over and one of the railcars knocked over a heating box on the rail lines causing a small fire. Wayne Township Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. Drone footage taken by the fire department shows several cars toppled over and some of those cars split open during the impact.
According to CSX, no injuries have been reported. A small amount of oil and diesel fuel leaked from the derailed cars but has not impacted local waterways. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
