June 29, 2021: Freight Train Derailed in Newberry Township, PA

A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed on Stillhouse Road in Newberry Township, PA on Monday afternoon. A total of 33 railcars derailed and ended up blocking both sets of tracks.
A hazmat team responded to the scene. Upon inspection, no hazardous materials were leaking from the train. Norfolk Southern is currently cleaning up PVC pellets that spilled during the derailment. The pellets did not impact the nearby Susquehanna River.
The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation. Local residents are asked to avoid the area.
