On Monday, a tractor-trailer that got stuck on the railroad tracks was struck by a train. The incident occurred in the 6200 block of Southeast Baseline Road in Belleview, Florida.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Eddie Rosa, said he was transporting his cargo from Winter Haven, FL to the local Walmart when he missed his turn. The plate on the bottom of the trailer was up which caused it to get caught on the tracks. When he realized he wasn’t able to move the truck he tried to call his employer. Eventually, Mr. Rosa saw the train approaching. He tried to flag down the engineer by running down the tracks with a flashlight. The train, which consisted of three locomotives, 67 loaded, mixed freight railcars and 36 empty railcars, was unable to stop in time and slammed into the tracker-trailer. The front of the train was heavily damaged and resulted in a diesel fuel leak. Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and asked residents to avoid the area.
