A CSX mixed freight train derailed in Richmond, Virginia yesterday evening. The 160 car train was on its way to Rocky Mount, NC when 18 cars derailed.
The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation. There were no injuries reported and no hazardous materials were involved in the incident.
CSX issued the following statement. “We appreciate the swift response of Richmond Fire Department. CSX crews are on site to assess the situation and begin recovery efforts. The safety of our employees and the community are our top priority as we work to restore the area.”
