February 24, 2021: Freight Train Collides with Semi Causing Fire in Texas

A BNSF mixed freight train collided with an 18-wheeler in Milam County, Texas on Tuesday morning. Around 13 cars derailed but there were no injuries to the truck driver or the train crew. One house did burn down near the accident site but the family was able to get out of the house safely.
Sherriff Chris White said “There was some hazardous materials a little farther back, so by the grace of God we were saved on that one. BNSF (Railway) showed up pretty quick and disconnected and moved the hazardous cargo out of range of the fire. The train was carrying…coal and gasoline and so that’s what caused the huge fire and all the smoke. We do have some elderly people that we’ve evacuated from their homes. It does appear that one home has burned that was close to the tracks. Other than that, everybody seems to be safe and good.”
