FMCSA has granted an application submitted by the Association of American Railroads and the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association.
The application requested an exemption from the the 14-hour rule and the 60-hour/70-hour rule. The exemption would allow railroad employees that are subject to the HOS rules to respond to unplanned events that take place outside of or extend beyond an employee’s normal work hours.
The exemption will be effective as of December 23, 2020 and will expire on December 18, 2025.
