OmniTRAX, on behalf of Illinois Railway, has submitted a petition for waiver of compliance from 49 CFR 229.23(a), Periodic inspections, which requires periodic inspections be made where adequate facilities are available, and at each periodic inspection, a locomotive must be positioned so that a person may
safely inspect the entire underneath portion of the locomotive.
According to OmniTRAX, three of Illinois Railways operational sections don’t have have access to a shop or pit but have been able to perform all the required tests on time by using other methods. Interested parties may submit comments until October 1, 2020. All comments must include the docket number.
