A Union Pacific freight train derailed in Portland, OR on Tuesday morning. The derailment damaged the North Lombard Street overpass but no injuries were reported. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
Following the cleanup of the derailed cars, Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) bridge engineers were on site to assess the overpass and determine if it could be reopened. PBOT allowed the area to be reopened but diverted traffic away from the damaged section of the overpass. The new lane configurations will remain in effect until the repairs are completed.
