The Charlotte Fire Department hazmat crew responded to a leaking railcar in southwest Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon. Officials said the railcar was leaking hydrochloric acid. It took nearly two dozen firefighters 80 minutes to contain the leak.
At this time it is still unclear which railroad owns the railcar or how the leak began. No injuries were reported and there is no threat to residents living and working in the area. Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is continuing to evaluate the situation.
