The Federal Railroad Administration is proposing revisions to the regulations regarding brake inspections, tests, and equipment. The changes include incorporating relief from various provisions provided in long-standing waivers related to single car air brake tests, end-of train devices, helper service, and brake maintenance. Additionally, FRA is proposing extending the amount of time freight rail equipment can be “off air” before requiring a new brake inspection. Interested parties may submit comments until March 16, 2020.
