Marc Garneau, Canadian Minister of Transport, issued Protective Direction No. 39 on August 28, 2018. This Protective Direction will accelerate the removal of CPC 1232 unjacketed tank cars from being used in crude oil transportation in Canada. The cars were initially scheduled to be removed from service on April 1, 2020 but will now be removed as of November 1, 2018.
In addition, this protective direction has also accelerated the removal of all TC/DOT 111 and CPC 1232 unjacketed tank cars from condensate service from the original date of April 30, 2025 to January 1, 2019.
