The Association of American Railroads (AAR) submitted a petition to FRA for special approval of existing industry safety appliance standards and minor edits to AAR Standard S-2044.
AAR is seeking approval of appendices F4, Safety Appliances for Side-Dump Cars, and J1, Safety appliances for Rail-Compatible Vehicles. These two appendices were not included in the AAR Standard S-2044 version that was approved in March 2016.
If approved by FRA, they would be applied to new railroad freight cars. Interested parties may submit comments on the petition until June 15, 2018.
