February 13, 2018: Petition for Waiver of Compliance

Union Pacific Railroad Company submitted a petition for waiver of compliance on 49 CFR 232.205, Class I brake test-initial terminal inspection and 49 CFR 215 Freight car safety standards regarding freight cars that are received in interchange at the U.S. / Mexico border crossing in Calexico California.
Union Pacific was initially given the conditional relief in 2007. In 2013 Union Pacific requested, and was granted, a five-year extension on the waiver of compliance.
The company feels it has been operating under the initial waiver and extension for ten years with no adverse effects on the overall safety of operations.
Interested parties may submit comments on the waiver request until March 30, 2018.

Docket Number FRA–2006–25764
