The Department of Transportation has released its final rule regarding adjustments to civil penalty amounts that may be imposed for violations of certain DOT regulation. DOT has released the final rule e without prior notice and comment. It will be effective as of March 21, 2022.
Additionally, this rule announces a new DOT authority to assess civil penalties for violations of requirements related to newly manufactured and operating railroad freight cars.
