Nine BNSF freight cars carrying 900 tons of grain derailed along SR 240 between Columbia Park Trail and the Yakima River Bridge. There were no injuries reported but two lanes on SR 240 eastbound have been closed to allow crews to reach the derailment site.
Richland Fire Chief Tom Huntington said the Department of Ecology and BNSF officials are headed to the scene and the cleanup is expected to last for several days.
