The Federal Railroad Administration has issued a final rule that will require all Class I freight railroads and each freight railroad with inadequate safety performance to develop and implement a Risk Reduction Program in an effort to improve safety.
Risk Reduction Program is a comprehensive and system oriented approach to safety that determines the risk level of a railroad by identifying applicable hazards. It also involves developing plans that will mitigate or eliminate the identified risks.
The final rule will be effective as of April 20, 2020.
