A Union Pacific train derailed thirty miles from the Utah-Nevada border on Wednesday morning. The train was hauling cars with hazardous materials and cars loaded with dozens of brand new cars and trucks. The railcars carrying hazardous materials were not among the 33 cars that derailed during the accident. However, all of the cars and trucks on board were destroyed.
The accident occured on County Road 4230 from Elgin to Carp Nevada. The road will remain partially closed for the next week and a half while crews clean up the train cars, debris, and equipment.
The cause of the derailment is unknown and currently under investigation by the Federal Railroad Administration.
