A portion of the Maumee Avenue bridge collapsed onto a Norfolk Southern main line in Toledo, Ohio yesterday afternoon. The bridge had been undergoing repairs since November and was closed at the time of the collapse. No injuries were reported and trains were still operating past the bridge site last night.
State Rep. Michael Sheehy (D-Toledo) said the collapse could have been “a tragedy of monumental proportions had it fallen on a train laden with hazardous materials.”
