July 19, 2021: Chemical Leak at Six Flags in Texas Sends 26 People to the Hospital

An airborne chemical leak at the children’s pool at Six Flags Harbor Splashdown in Spring, Texas sent 26 people to the hospital on Saturday. A toddler is currently in severe condition at a local hospital. More than sixty people needed decontamination after exposure. The chemical involved are a hypochlorite solution and 35% sulfuric acid.
According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office those affected were experiencing minor skin and/or inhalation irritation. The cause of the leak is under investigation.
Six Flags spokesperson, Sandra Daniels, said “A small number of guests in a section of the park reported feeling ill with respiratory irritation. The safety of our guests and team members is always our highest priority. The park was immediately cleared as we try to determine a cause.”
