March 4, 2021: Thousands of Gallons of Hazardous Liquid Spilled in California Derailment

A BNSF mixed freight train derailed in San Bernardino County, CA on Wednesday afternoon. Approximately 44 cars derailed causing one of the tank cars carrying denatured alcohol to spill thousands of gallons of the flammable liquid.
The hazmat unit of the San Bernardino County Fire Department was able to mitigate the leak. BNSF personnel are working with the fire department to begin the “extensive clean-up process”. There were no injuries reported. The California Highway Patrol has issued a notice that the National Trails Highway will be closed from Ludlow to two miles east of the community for an unknown duration.
