A Burlington-Northern coal train and a semi truck collided in Eddyville, Iowa on Wapello-Monroe road early Monday morning. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department determined the truck driver failed to yield at the railroad crossing. The truck driver was flown to Mercy Medical in Des Moines, IA but his condition was not immediately released.
The train was empty at the time of the collision but several cars did derail as a result of the impact. Wapello Monroe Road/County Line Road T61 was closed for a short time following the accident but has since been reopened to traffic.
