A tanker truck and a train collided in Montgomery County, VA near Walton Road. The train’s conductor has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. At the time of the accident, the train was carrying RoundUp, a commonly used broad-spectrum glyphosate-based herbicide.
The Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Dept., Christiansburg Rescue, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and VDEM Hazmat responded to the scene. The accident caused the train to derail and spill some of the chemicals on board. The spill was contained to the railroad tracks and has since been cleaned up.
