February 25, 2019: Train Strikes Pick-Up Stuck in Snow in Milbank
A BNSF freight train struck a pick-up truck that had gotten stuck in a snow drift at a railroad crossing in Milbank, South Dakota early this morning. The accident caused 23 rail cars loaded with grain and two engines to derail.
There were no reported injuries; truck driver heard the train approaching and was able to escape the vehicle prior to the impact.
John Forman, City Administrator for Milbank, told reporters he was unsure how long the clean-up would take or when the rail crossing will open again.
