Two crew members were injured on Friday morning when two BNSF Railway trains collided at Pacific Junction. The incident occurred about 18 miles south of Omaha, Neb.
BNSF stated an empty coal train hit the back of a mixed freight train at about 7 a.m. local time. That caused two locomotives and 11 cars from the coal train and five cars from the other train to derail. BNSF says railroad responders are on the scene and an investigation is under way.
The two crew members on the coal train were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. KMA News reported the manifest freight included cars carrying ethanol, but those cars remained on the tracks.
