An airborne chemical leak at the children’s pool at Six Flags Harbor Splashdown in Spring, Texas sent 26 people to the hospital on Saturday. A three year old was among those taken to the hospital and was listed in severe condition. Over sixty people had to be decontaminated after being exposed to the chemicals, which are believed to be a hypochlorite solution and 35% sulfuric acid.
According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office those affected were experiencing minor skin and/or inhalation irritation. The cause of the leak is currently being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
Six Flags spokesperson, Sandra Daniels, said “A small number of guests in a section of the park reported feeling ill with respiratory irritation. The safety of our guests and team members is always our highest priority and the park was immediately cleared as we try to determine a cause.”
