Three Union Pacific railroad workers were injured during a derailment in Lund, Utah on Thursday evening. The crew reported seeing water on the tracks right before the train, which consisted of 95 cars, derailed. The contents of the cargo is unknown at this time.
Iron County Sheriff’s Lt. Del Schlosser issued the following statement: “Due to the rising floodwaters, the occupants could not evacuate off the top of the derailed locomotive. Due to the remote location and lack of medical supplies, there was a concern for the wellbeing of those injured…Deputies and emergency personnel had a difficult time reaching the subjects due to the weather conditions and flooding in the area…After some time, the subjects were transferred off the train. They were then transported to the hospital for further treatment. Two occupants were in good condition and one was in stable condition.”
