June 25, 2021: Union Pacific Derailment in Iowa Leaking LPG

A Union Pacific freight train derailed in Ames, Iowa on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-seven cars derailed near Carnegie Avenue and Edison Street.
Ames Fire Chief, Rich Higgins, said between 15-20 properties in the area will be evacuated because liquified petroleum gas is leaking from some of the derailed cars. There were no injuries reported and a hazmat team is on scene. The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
