May 17, 2021: Union Pacific Train Carrying Hydrochloric Acid Derailed in Albert Lea, MN

Local residents were asked to shelter in place on Saturday afternoon after a Union Pacific train carrying hydrochloric acid derailed near Goose Lake in Albert Lea, MN.
Around 28 cars derailed but there were no injuries reported. Union Pacific has been working throughout the night to clean up the derailment but the public is being asked to avoid Hawthorne Street and Ulsted Avenue.
The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
