March 31, 2021: Truck Carrying Radioactive Uranium Compound Involved in Multi-vehicle Accident in NC

According to NCDOT, a truck transporting a radioactive uranium compound was involved in a three vehicle accident in I-95 in Cumberland County, NC. The accident occurred around 11:30am and involved a commercial vehicle, the truck carrying the uranium compound, and a passenger van. There were no injuries.
Portions of I-95 in Cumberland County will be closed for several hours while crews clean-up the scene.
A HazMat unit responded to the accident. They determined there had been no breach of containment. The uranium compound is not considered a threat to local residents.
