January 27, 2021: Vehicle Struck by Train in Perham, MN

A BNSF freight train struck a vehicle at a railroad crossing in Perham, MN. The driver, a 27-year-old woman whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
The vehicle was entangled in the train, making it difficult for rescue workers to reach the driver. They tried to have the train moved in order to free the vehicle but the lead locomotive was stuck in emergency mode, most likely due to an air leak, preventing it from being moved. It took railroad crews about five hours to bring in another locomotive to supply the damaged engine with air.
The accident is currently under investigation. There were no reported injuries to the train’s crew and no hazardous materials were involved in the accident.
