December 25, 2020: Small Bridge Collapse Causes Derailment in Iowa

A Union Pacific freight train derailed in Polk County, Iowa on Friday morning. Around 20-25 cars derailed when a bridge north of NE 102nd Ave. collapsed.
There were no injuries reported. It is unclear whether there were any hazardous materials involved. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has been notified of the incident. The Elkhart Fire Department, Ankeny Fire Department and the Des Moines Fire Department’s Hazmat team were on-site following the derailment.
