December 23, 2020: Semi-truck Collides with Freight Train in Yakima, Washington

For the second time in two days a BNSF freight train was involved in a derailment in Washington state. The train, which consisted of 3 engines and eight empty grain cars, was struck by a semi-truck that was hauling farm equipment. The accident took place near State Route 22 in a rural part of Yakima, WA.
The driver and the train’s crew members were shaken up and suffered minor injuries.
According to the Department of Ecology, at least two of the engines leaked diesel fuel onto the ground. A BNSF Railway crew is onsite working on containing the spill and cleaning up the derailed cars. It is unclear at this time how much fuel actually spilled.
