A Norfolk Southern freight train carrying coal derailed in Panama, Illinois on Sunday morning. A total of 24 cars left the tracks but no injuries were reported. Shoal Creek Fire Protection District responded to the accident. There were no hazardous materials on board at the time of the incident. Local residents are being asked to avoid the southern end of Depot Street while the cleanup is underway.
