October 29, 2020: Train Derailment Forces Evacuations in Mauriceville, TX

A freight train carrying chemicals has derailed in Mauriceville, TX. Drone footage of the accident shows at least a dozen train cars crumpled on the tracks.
Local schools, businesses, and residents within a mile of the derailment are being asked to evacuate. An additional shelter in place order has been issued for those living a half a mile beyond the evacuation area.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from Mauriceville Emergency Service District 4 have already responded to the scene and are working to find out what chemicals the train was carrying.
There have been no injuries reported at this time. There are currently over 2,300 customers without power as a result of the derailment. Officials are asking everyone to avoid the area. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
